SWNEAZ Citizenship Week 2009
| 14 SW Newham EAZ primary schools
will soon be delivering their 8th Citizenship Week with
Awards Day presenting yet another opportunity to showcase
the variety of initiatives in operation.
The Theme is "Children Like Me…" in my
school, in my neighbourhood, in my country, on this planet,
and the Key Issue will be What does it mean to be British?

Award Winners 2008 – “Going Green”
|
New this year is an emphasis on poetry as a persuasive medium
(A2, B1) and an option to enter into a quality kite marking process
(A5). Other ideas for development are “conflict & peace”
(A6, B4, B6, D3) and “what it means to belong” (A7,
B3 & 7, D1,2,4).
All these will sit alongside the usual raft of Citizenship skills
development opportunities: presentation, listening, thinking and
debate.
|
Key objectives for these
14 primary schools working individually and in partnership
are:
• Forward planning of school-based activities and
educational trips in support of the Theme.
• Increased involvement of parents/carers and community.
• Yet another successful literacy programme and Awards
Day.
